A demolition survey should be used to locate asbestos materials within a building that is scheduled for demolition. It allows aggressive inspection techniques that would no normally be allowed in a building which is in use. This will include taking down walls, ripping up floors, removing fixtures and causing damage to the building i order to find asbestos that may be hidden from site. Our team have the technical capabilities to carry out this task from small dwellings right through to large scale works such social housing blocks and industrial units.
Once the survey has been carried out and all of the samples have been analysed, a user friendly report will be generated for the client which shows the location of all asbestos found. This is an essential part of the demolition process and can carry legal implications if not carried out by a suitably trained, qualified and competent contractor such as ourselves.
Fibre Safe have extensive experience in this sector having carried out large projects in Liverpool, Manchester, London and Edinburgh. The projects have been diverse and include everything from demolition surveys on Schools in London right through to RAF Sealand in North Wales.
"A demolition survey is needed before any demolition work is carried out. This type of survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the whole building if demolition is planned. The survey will be fully intrusive and involve destructive inspection, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A demolition survey may also be required in other circumstances, eg when more intrusive maintenance and repair work will be carried out or for plant removal or dismantling"
Any building that was built before the year 2000 may contain asbestos materials.
Asbestos is known to be in over 4000 different building products, many of which are common everyday items that you wouldn’t suspect.
Please remember that an pre-demolition survey is required by law whenever a section a building or the full building is to be demolished. The asbestos survey is required even if you believe there to be no asbestos on the premises.
Although there are far too many asbestos products to list, we have compiled a short video of the most popular types of asbestos containing materials which our surveyors come across.
Please remember that asbestos materials should only be handled by an appropriately trained, inured and competent person. If you would like to book an inspection, then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0800 458 4136.
